Photography and Filmmaking
The GSVA Media Studio is an after-school, digital learning center in which teen students learn how to bring design thinking and visual storytelling to life. The GSVA Media Studio provides an environment rarely found in most schools but demanded by industry leaders. Our educational goal in the GSVA Media Studio is to cultivate a new generation of confident innovators, inventors, leaders and scientists in every field who see and understand the world through the lens of a designer. Students bring their own ideas and posed problems to the table and GSVA helps guide their vision through photography and/or filmmaking. We provide the tools, technology and creative support to venture into the world of digital media.
Cedar Rapids
In spring of 2010, a group of novice film students, lead by Sundance award winning filmmaker Mike Yearling, embarked upon a collaborative film showcasing the human compassion during the time of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa flooding. Watch the compelling documentary short and be inspired by the resilience of the human spirit.
One year after the Cedar Rapids experience, two of the former students went on to lead the Granville Lego Aces. In the summer of 2011, their team won 1st place in the worldwide MoonBots competition using the GSVA Media Studio! GSVA's own Jennifer Pentecost made her debut performance as an actor in the featured video below. Check it out then also visit the Lego Aces website.
