Fresh Paint: News from GSVA

Reynoldsburg Summit Senior Photo Exhibit

The show was proudly named "the end of the beginning" by the seniors in celebration of their class being the first of many things: The first graduating class at the Summit Campus, the first to take this new photography class, and the first to have an art show in the newly built gallery in their school. As a class they cherish these "firsts" and their artwork is a reflection of their experiences, both from the past and present.

Over the past three years, Granville Studio of Visual Arts has been a proud community partner of the Reynoldsburg City Schools. It was a great pleasure to expand our partnership this year to include a GSVA-instructed photography class for RCS high school students.

Offered this spring, the class was comprised of seniors interested in developing their artistic abilities in digital photography.  Using Nikon D3000 SLR cameras, they explored design principles and mechanical techniques of the photographic medium, all in the interest of bringing their creative visions to life.

In order to develop a sophisticated understanding of the medium, students grounded their inquiry in an examination of the history of photography. Venturing around the school building and its exterior grounds with cameras in hand, they carefully crafted a unique body of work. The resulting photographs resonates with each student’s personal voice. Those voices join together to form a visual story which is further unveiled through each artists’ written statement.

The students invite you to enjoy this inaugural exhibition, which they curated and installed with great care. Naming the show “The End of the Beginning”, they share with you the closing of the first major chapter of their lives. And, as they prepare to embark upon a new journey, please join us in congratulating these talented artists.

Way to go, Aman, Jamyl, Jamilah, Michael, Jay, Tee, Lee and CyQuan. You guys rock!
