Class Overview
Children ages 4 to 6 years old will enjoy this class, and parents are invited to join their child and learn together on family day. Each series revolves around an interesting theme. Past themes have included Cultures Around the World, Space Exploration, Under Water Worlds and Dinosaurs.  Because the themes change from series to series, your child will be having fun and learning something new and exciting every time they enroll in Young Explorers.  Mediums range from drawing, painting, and mixed media to recycled materials.

Educational Philosophy
GSVA Young Explorers, for pre-school, kindergarten and first grade students, lays the foundation for a lifetime of creative thinking. Each series includes lessons in science, history and math. Our approach shares important principles with the Reggio Emilia pedagogy. The program is a child-centered, exploration-based approach to early childhood education, organized around a specific theme, with a focus on art as the vehicle for active learning. Children build knowledge about the world around them through the artistic process. In that process, they also begin to develop design skills and valuable knowledge about art techniques and art history. They are encouraged to use their imaginations and to communicate their ideas and opinions with their classmates through their artwork. GSVA instructors closely observe each child and attempt to tailor instruction to each child's strengths, interests and style of learning.
